Resilience Hub

Vlore · Albania · 2023 · Community & Cultural Building

A spatial inquiry into resilience, equity, and adaptive living.

The Lifeline reimagines architecture as infrastructure for continuity—linking the beach, forest, and city of Vlore through a network of community-serving spaces that respond to the rhythms of everyday life, disruption, and recovery. At its core lies the Resilience Hub and Community Engagement Center—hybrid civic anchors designed to support residents, coordinate resources, and cultivate collective preparedness. These hubs operate under three temporal modes—Normal, Disruption, and Recovery—ensuring access to energy, communication, and public health systems when they are most needed.

Drawing from the coastal ecologies and social fabric of Vlore, the Lifeline integrates passive design strategies, renewable energy, and hybrid resilience systems to form a self-sustaining ecosystem. It restores agency to marginalized communities—particularly the Roma and forest-edge populations—by centering equity, inclusion, and environmental stewardship. Through a layered approach that unites architecture, infrastructure, and governance, the Lifeline demonstrates how civic spaces can become adaptive frameworks for social connection, climate resilience, and economic stability an architectural prototype for future Albanian cities.
