Built Environment & Landscape Concept Design, Masterplan, Detail

Since the early 20th century and with rising intensity after WWII—the Apennines have experienced severe depopulation, leading to the abandonment of rural economies, spontaneous reforestation, and the erosion of traditional land-use patterns. This project responds to that shifting landscape by examining the productive woods, foothills, and abandoned settlements of Monte Cimone.

Through a detailed reading of slopes, morphologies, and emerging recreational trajectories, the design proposes four distinct pathways—“the fingers”—each articulating a unique spatial character across walking routes, bike paths, and land-art interventions. From topographical analysis to shelter prototypes and a masterplan harmonized with future woodland expansion, the work navigates the intertwined relationships between ecology, demography, and cultural memory.
